On the right and the left, Jewish groups are expressing concerns about the deal that Trump and Iran announced on Sunday night, even as its terms have not yet officially come into focus.

Former strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer said that while he had heard “concerns” about a possible agreement with Iran, Israel should “take a step back” and assess the current strategic picture.

The fund, contingent on Iran’s adherence to a final US ceasefire deal, would be created to attract investment in Iran’s abundant energy resources. 

"This agreement is going to make Israel safer, going to make the entire region safer. We feel quite confident that the Israelis are going to be brought in," Vance said in a CBS interview.

For Israel, the success of any US-Iran deal will be measured not by headlines or market reactions, but by whether Tehran’s ability to threaten its neighbors is reduced.

Trump has a clear compass; sometimes Israel falls on the same needle, and sometimes it may point elsewhere. That does not mean the compass should be discarded when there is no alignment.
